Intern Reviews

  • “The firm culture at Hanson is so welcoming! On my first day I was introduced to so many people and was assisted by a Hanson ambassador and mentor. Within my first week I had met the team I would be working with for the summer and got to go out to lunch with some of them. I have had the opportunity to interact with almost every practice lead. I have fun talking to the employees in the cubicles near mine and going to lunch every week with the other interns in the office.”
  • “Hanson is an amazing engineering firm and a great place to intern. The work environment is very professional, and the people who work there are very helpful and respectful towards all interns. I worked 40 hours a week as an intern, but there were a few days I needed off, and one day, I had a doctor's appointment. I communicated all of this to my manager, and there were no problems at all. This company is very understanding of your work/life balance. Overall, an amazing experience at Hanson!”
  • “I was allowed to transfer to the Bellevue, Wash., office from the Springfield, Ill., location even though my supervisor and discipline are based in Illinois. My supervisors have been willing to guide me through projects and questions virtually. In the new state, I have had to adjust my personal life, where my supervisors have been very understanding in my schedule and provided some accommodations. Additionally, the employees outside of my discipline and everyday work are always helpful and welcoming. I work 40 hours a week with the benefit of getting one hour of PTO.”
  • “Overall, I have enjoyed the internship experience. When I arrived, everything was set up and ready for me and someone helped me fill out all of the paperwork that was necessary. The firm culture is very mellow. Everyone seems very hard at work, and there is not a whole lot of interaction for the most part. However, when there is interaction, everyone is very nice. I work 40 hours a week. I have been awfully busy this summer with taking two summer classes and working 40 hours a week. I am basically booked during the weekdays, but I am making the most out of my weekends to stay happy.”

Why Intern Here

Hanson engineering interns become a part of our team, with a seat at the table and a role in the field — top-notch learning experiences in the trenches with seasoned professionals. Interns typically support one or more of our experienced engineers in assignments, spend time shadowing operations, work on unique assignments that support larger projects and experience the day-to-day workings of engineering. Many of our past interns have seamlessly  transitioned into full-time positions with us after graduation. Read about one of our full-time aviation employees who found a home at Hanson following an internship.

Getting Hired Here

  • “I think the hiring process went pretty smoothly. I started out by filling out an online application and thought all of the questions were relevant. I then went through a screening process where I was asked a few basic interview questions. I then went through an interview with a majority of the environmental assessment team where I was able to meet them and was asked more specific questions regarding the environmental assessment position.”
  • “The hiring process was simple and direct. It was not too long of a process but still allowed you time to meet members of the company and gather information. They were quite selective when choosing applicants, only choosing interns with the skills they are looking for.”
  • “I had two interviews. The first one was a simple meeting with HR to talk about the opportunity. The second interview was with the discipline lead and my manager’s supervisor. We spoke about the job and what would be expected.”
  • “The hiring process was the best I've seen so far. Lots of calls, making sure this was what I was looking for. The calls before the internship started that allowed me to network with all of the interns were very cool as well. The process seemed very competitive, but I enjoyed that because it pushed me to earn my spot.”
